Alternative to Compact Fluorescents

One of the head-honchos from Dale Tiffany was in yesterday and he told me about the new 72-watt incondescent bulbs that use halogen technology to give you 100-watts (1150 lums) of brightness while using only 72-watts of electricity.

Not as energy conscious as compact fluorescents, but still an energy saver

72-Watts

We don't sell lightbulbs, but 1000bulbs.com is a nice site. Amazon and WalMart also have them.

Customer asked....

Nelson, what is your best quality, but low priced outdoor line?
I gave him a quick and honest answer: Vaxcel Lighting
Vaxcel does a very nice job, yet keeps their prices in Big Box store range.
I don't know how they do it, but they do.
I particularly like their Yellowstone line (pardon the Quoizel and Cherry Tree items. Our new search mechanism isn't as good as the old one...but that is progress).

Easy fix to an aging dining room

Dining room getting a little long-in-the-tooth? An easy fix is a coat of paint and a new chandelier.

For paint supplies head down to Home Depot or Lowes, but we have chandeliers to fit your style and pocketbook.

Sometimes a smaller scale downlight will do the trick.
Sometimes the need is big scale.

Sometimes you want flash.
Sometimes plain vanilla fits the bill.

Sometimes simple is needed.
Sometimes you want all the bells and whistles.

Whatever you think is right for you, a new chandelier can really make your dining room's day...and night.

New Stuff

Been adding new lines to the website and they tend to be more modern or etheral in nature. Skyline is from ELK lighting. The stainless steel finish on laser etched stainless steel and the universal city skyline so modern arts & crafts (american Art Deco) should make this line a winner. Woodland Sunrise is another new line from ELK. Again you have a fixture made from stainless steel, but here it is laser etched and finished in Bronze. The etched trees and tree branches give off a ethereal beauty that is both stunning and dynamic. And I should not forget our new Emerson Ceiling Fans. Did you know Emerson invented the ceiling fan back in 1892 to cool off top floors in the new multi-storied buildings. Heat rises, you know. Emerson claims their fan are of the highest quality made for todays residential and commercial markets. Need a coupon code: try AV10, AV15 or AV20 up to 4-30-2011. Advice from a Realtor

A customer was just in picking-up some Hillcrest Lanterns. Last week she was in picking-up some Alameda Lanterns. We got to talking and it turned out she was a Realtor and investor in the upscale Hinsdale area about 3-miles from our office and warehouse. She told me she always buys new outdoor wall lanterns for houses she is listing because "$500 in outdoor lights will add $2500 to the home's value via better curb appeal and decrease the amount of time the house is on the market by as much as 30-days. It was a win-win situation for her and the little investor group she represents. Interesting tidbit, Nels

Sometimes you need a little light

Sometimes size counts, but in reverse and you need a little close-to-the-ceiling light to provide light and a little ambience, but stay out of the way and unobtrusive. Little lights should be low profile in height and diameter and attractive. Flush mounts can work and certainly semi-flushes if they are not too big. My wife always likes semi-flushes because they provide more light. My son-in-law, who is 6' 7" tall, likes flush mounts because they are closer to the ceiling. Think about your needs then make the choice. Nelson www.thebrightspot.com

More Light...Less Cost

30-watt compact flourescent bulbs are now available giving the equivalient of 120-incandescent-watts or 4 times the bang for your electric cost. Take for example our Jasmine Teardrop Table Lamp - it is rated for 2 x 60-watts, 120-watts total, but if you used two of the new 30-watt compact flourescents you would have double the brightness at 240-watts. Quite a difference. Linda and I have been using compact flourescent's for years now and are very satisfied with the results and the energy savings. We find the lowest prices and smallest-sized-bulbs at WalMart. At last count I have not changed an outdoor light bulb in 27-months and counting.

Ceiling Fans for Summer Savings

The best way to save money on your summer air conditioning costs is not to run the darn thing at all. But if you are like Linda and I and want to stay cool when the temperature climbs to 8o or more then you do turn it on, but you also turn on your ceiling fans to better circulate the cooled air throughout the room used. I am told by probably reliable sources in the industry that you can recoup the cost of a $200 ceiling fan within the first year of use on electricity usage saved. Ceiling fans also directly keep you cool all by themselves and if it isn't too hot out keep the air off and the fans on for even more savings. We have a variety of Ceiling Fans in a wide price range. And remember you can also call us for a discount code.
